Happy 100th Birthday to Laura Carmichael

The Hippodrome wanted to send a big Happy Birthday to Laura Carmichael who celebrated her 100th birthday November 20th.

Laura’s birthday party was a true community event with 250 people in attendance. A Proclamation was read by Mayor Pegeen Hanrahan, followed by a hundred years of memories from community members about Laura’s contributions to Gainesville.

Laura is known by thousands of people for her news clippings which she has been sending to members of the community for the past 51 years. Gary Kirkland, a reporter for the Gainesville Sun (read more in his article), was at the party to “retire the scissors.” Laura was not having any of it and decided that her scissors will go on clipping.

Over the past 33 years, Carmichael has been a Hipp subscriber and donor. We have received hundreds of news clipping, tons of peanut brittle and the joy of Laura’s friendship. She is a wonderful part of the Hippodrome family. Thank you, Laura, for sharing all those wonderful years with all of us and happy birthday from your Hippodrome family.
